2nd GEO Forest Monitoring Symposium
From Research to Operations
July 1-3, 2009 Chiang Rai, Thailand
Forest ecosystems are amongst the Earth’s greatest natural resources. They are linked to all nine of the societal benefit areas of the Global Earth Observing System of Systems (GEOSS) being developed by GEO. The Second Forest Monitoring Symposium continues the theme “From Research to Operations’. It will provide a forum for discussions related to interoperability and consistency in satellite data supplies. To satisfy global operational forest change monitoring and carbon tracking an important issue is the need to consolidate the methods appropriate for multi-sensor processing. The Symposium aims to highlight cross-benefits among the related GEO Forest Tasks, and their links to other application areas such as sustainable forest management, biodiversity assessment, protected-area monitoring etc.
